Bands and artists can now apply to be part of ITC Unsigned 2009 by visiting www.inthecity.co.uk/applytoplay and via post.
We will need a link to online music, a 300 word biography and a photograph of the band. Full application details are displayed in the ‘apply to play’ section of the ITC website, along with postal details should you prefer to send us a CD.
Applications to play In The City Unsigned are free of charge.

ITC PODCAST #2: FEATURED ARTISTS COALITION
The second ITC panel podcast is now available on iTunes and www.inthecity.co.uk and features the official announcement of the new Featured Artist Coalition, made at In The City 2008.
The FAC has made headline news this week with its first board meeting and introduction to the mainstream media. Its board features artists such as Billy Bragg, Ed O’Brien, Dave Rowntree, Jazzie B and, as featured in this podcast, Kate Nash.
The podcast features Jeremy Silver, Kate Nash and a clip of some of the artists that have signed up from the start - and explains the aims and the need for such a body to exist: “The Featured Artists' Coalition campaigns for the protection of performers' and musicians' rights. We want all artists to have more control of their music and a much fairer share of the profits it generates in the digital age. We speak with one voice to help artists strike a new bargain with record companies, digital distributors and others, and are campaigning for specific changes.”

ITC 2009 DATES
In The City 2009 will take place on 18th, 19th and 20th October 2009 at The Midland hotel and throughout the venues and bars of Manchester, England.
The ITC team are already putting together the keynotes, showcases and panels that will make up this year’s conference to build on the massive success of ITC 2008. If you are a record label, management company or industry body and would like to showcase at In The City please contact gavin@inthecity.co.uk to discuss any potential plans.

Former ITC acts amongst 2009 BRIT Awards Nominees
The nominations for this year’s BRIT Awards have been announced, and 6 former ITC acts have managed to bag 14 nominations between them.
Elbow, Coldplay and Radiohead go head-to-head in the ‘Best British Group’ category. The same 3 bands will also battle it out for the ‘Best British Album’ award. The ‘Best British Live Act’ category is dominated by former ITC bands – Coldplay, Elbow, Scouting For Girls and The Verve will be battling to overcome the might of metal godfathers Iron Maiden! Coldplay and Scouting For Girls receive nominations for the ‘Best British Single’ award. Scouting For Girls’ third nomination comes in the ‘Best British Breakthrough Act’ category. A mention also for ITC 2008 graduate Little Boots who was runner-up in the ‘Critics’ Choice Award’, losing out to Florence & The Machine.
ITC has a history of producing BRIT Award-winning acts – so far 14 acts have shared 38 BRIT Awards between them. This includes the current holders of British Group (Arctic Monkeys), British Album (Arctic Monkeys), International Group (Foo Fighters) and International Album (Foo Fighters).
The 2009 Brit Awards are held at Earl’s Court in London on February 18th. We await our invites in the post!

The podcast features the full keynote address by Andy Burnham MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport moderated by Channel 4 News' Faisal Islam and with introductions by both Yvette Livesey and ITC 2008 guest host Andrew Loog Oldham.
In his role as Secretary of State, Leigh MP Andy Burnham is the music industry's key governmental figure, and his keynote address covers vital issues such as copyright extension, piracy, internet pricing models and his vision for the future of the music industry. Media reporting of this panel focussed on his support for a return of Top Of The Pops - the catalyst for a number of similar calls over the past two months, an internet campaign and reports that Simon Cowell would be interested in taking control of the format.
